The NRA Basic Rifle Shooting course teaches the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a rifle in target shooting.

This course is a comprehensive program that includes both classroom instruction and live-fire range training. Students receive structured, instructor-led guidance designed to build safe handling habits, marksmanship fundamentals, and confidence with rifle operation.

Course Length & Materials

This course is at least 14 hours in length and includes both classroom and range time.

Students receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester / NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, complete a student examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Massachusetts Licensing

This course is approved for Massachusetts Firearms Identification (FID) card applications.

Required Documentation

All students must download, read, sign, and bring the Liability Waiver to class.
