NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is designed for individuals of all experience levels, including those new to firearms as well as experienced shooters seeking formal instruction. NRA membership is not required.
This course is typically up to 8 hours in length and includes both classroom instruction and live-fire range training. Instruction covers both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.
Students Will Learn

- Pistol parts and operation
- Ammunition knowledge and safe handling
- Shooting fundamentals
- Range safety rules and procedures
- Shooting from a bench rest and two-handed standing positions
- Basic pistol cleaning and maintenance
- Options for continued skill development
Course Materials & Completion
Students receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting, NRA Gun Safety Rules, a student examination, and a course completion certificate.
Licensing & Training Recognition
This course is approved by the Massachusetts State Police and satisfies the training requirement for Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC) and Firearms Identification (FID) applications.
In some cases, completion of this course may satisfy training requirements for non-resident concealed carry permit applications in other states. Acceptance of training is determined solely by the issuing authority. Students are responsible for confirming that this course meets the requirements of the state or jurisdiction to which they are applying.
Firearms & Ammunition
Students may bring their own handgun and up to 50 rounds of factory-new, commercially manufactured ammunition that meets SAAMI specifications. Reloaded or re-manufactured ammunition is not permitted.
If you do not own a handgun, one will be provided for training. Ammunition for provided firearms is included in the registration fee.
Required Documentation
All students must download, read, sign, and bring the Liability Waiver to class.
