New Shooters Begin Here

Firearms training orientation for new shooters If you are new to firearms, returning after time away, or simply unsure where to begin, you are in the right place.

Firearms training can feel overwhelming at first. Questions about safety, equipment, laws, and expectations are common. At Seacoast Firearms Training, we focus on creating a supportive, respectful learning environment where safety, understanding, and confidence come first.

What to Expect from Training

Beginner-level training is designed for students with little or no prior experience. Instruction emphasizes:

  • Safe firearm handling and storage
  • Understanding basic firearm operation
  • Developing sound habits and situational awareness
  • Learning applicable state and federal laws
  • Building confidence through structured instruction

You do not need prior experience to begin training. Questions are encouraged, and instruction is delivered at a comfortable, manageable pace.

Before Your First Class

Many first-time students are unsure what to bring or what is expected. In most beginner courses:

  • You do not need to own a firearm
  • Firearms and ammunition may be provided when required
  • Eye and ear protection will be discussed prior to class
  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing is recommended

Specific requirements are listed on each individual course page.

Choosing the Right Starting Point

Not all students have the same goals. Some are seeking licensing or certification, while others are interested in personal safety, home defense, or general firearms education.

To help determine the most appropriate training path, we recommend starting with our Training Overview, which explains available course types and common entry points.

Safety First

Safety is the foundation of all training. Before attending any live-fire course, students should be familiar with basic firearm safety principles.

Reviewing the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling prior to class is strongly encouraged.

For shooting classes, students will also be required to review and sign the Liability Waiver.

Next Steps

We look forward to helping you begin your training journey safely and confidently.
