Where Should I Start?

Many students are unsure which course is right for them. The guidance below outlines common starting points based on typical goals.

  • Massachusetts LTC or FID licensing: Begin with a Massachusetts State Police–approved firearms safety course required for license applicants.
  • New to firearms: Introductory pistol, rifle, or shotgun courses focused on safe handling, operation, and fundamentals.
  • Personal safety or self-defense: Training focused on situational awareness, personal safety strategies, and defensive decision-making, with or without firearms.
  • Private or group instruction: Customized training for individuals, families, clubs, organizations, or special needs.
  • Range or instructor safety roles: Education for those seeking Range Safety Officer or higher-level safety oversight roles.

Training Categories

Licensing & Legal Requirements

Courses required for Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC) and Firearms Identification (FID) applications, including instruction on safe handling, storage, and applicable laws.

Firearms Fundamentals

Pistol, rifle, and shotgun courses covering core safety principles, firearm operation, and marksmanship fundamentals.

Personal Safety & Self-Defense
